An Italian man who argued with his son over Sony PlayStation tactics was recovering in hospital on Monday after the teenager stabbed him in the neck with a 15-inch (40 cm) kitchen knife, police and hospital officials said.
The man, identified as Fabrizio R., suffered a deep cut to the throat after his 16-year-old son, Mario, attacked him during an argument on Sunday over the soccer video game FIFA 2009.

Police said the argument broke out when the 46-year-old storekeeper offered his son advice on tactics to improve his play, and then turned the television off in response to his son's behaviour.

Fetching a knife from the kitchen, Mario stabbed his father in the neck before returning to clean the weapon at the kitchen sink in front of his mother and leaving it to dry on the draining-board. Forty-six year-old housewife Monica B,. told Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera that she had no idea what had happened until her husband stumbled into the room, clutching his throat.

"I saw Mario come back into the room, he seemed calm, he went to the sink and I noticed him washing a knife," Monica told the newspaper. "Then my husband came into the room with a hand round his neck, dripping blood."

The teenager shut himself in his bedroom after the attack and made no attempt to resist arrest, police said.

The game had been given to Mario a few days earlier, as a birthday present.

"Mario is obsessed. He's forever playing on his PlayStation, and we bought him FIFA 2009 because we didn't want him playing violent games," his mother told Il Corriere.

fucking kid...now idiot people have more fuel to throw at the "video games turn people violent" fire. This is a product of either a person just being crazy, or parents not raising their kids right. I'm inclined to think the latter considering that the lady said she got the kid a (ghey) soccer game so that he wouldn't play violent games. No need to point out the irony here. Her focus should have been more on why her kid shouldn't play violent games than what she should do so he won't play violent games. My parents never once considered whether they should get me a game or not because of how violent it was because they knew that they did a good job on teaching me right from wrong. They were pretty confident, and rightfully so, that I was aware that video games are fake. That I was aware that my actions in real life carried real consequences unlike my actions in the video games. They understood that I understood that there's a difference between what I see on the screen and what I do in real life. They also kept in check how worked up I got about a game, reinforcing that cliche "it's just a game, chill the fuck out" attitude. Honestly though, I don't recall how many times my parents would tell me to turn off the game, and I would say, "gimme a second, just let me save it!" Then, they would walk up to the ac adapter and give me a three count before they pulled it out. Not once did I ever say, "fuck this shit, wait right there, I'm going to go get a kitchen knife and fucking stab you." Why? Cause I'm not crazy and my parents raised me better than that....but then again, I was playing an 8bit system. Maybe if I had a ps3 back then with all the awesome graphics and shit, who knows what I would be capable of doing.

it's not a gay soccer game, it's made of win, the problem is he's playing fifa 09 and not fifa 10.

obviously. You don't just go up to someone playing fifa, much less an outmoded version, and start preaching tactics. :red: I mean, if the kid was playing the new mario and the father pulled this shit (even on the last level), violence would be uncalled for...but given the situation... :msaw: <- totally appropriate.

If I was that kids dad I would have stabbed him back.

Kids are retards. But then, hey, my mom used to bitch when I wouldn't stop playing Chrono Trigger and go to school, so I shoved my Super Nintendo right up her ass and drove over her with the lawnmower. Bitch deserved it. :eyeroll:

The kid sounded pretty cold blooded. I mean just washing the knife and letting it dry. This event is just sad.

Well, he probably didn't want the knife to rust up... Totally understandable.

Indeed, whatever you do, make sure you don't damage the equipment. :oh:
But that's what happens when addicts are told how to do what they are addicted to.
I wondering what a WoW addict would do if he was told how to play
